River Safari Singapore

Earlier in the year I was contacted by Singapore tourism about working with them which was exciting because we were already planning on going at the end of this trip. And we’ve never been! AND I had no idea about what would work with 2 kids aged 4 & 7. I was stoked that they wanted to arrange a day for Rob and the girls when we were here doing some of the family stuff that you can do when visiting this great country.

We were picked up from the hotel by our lovely guide Winnie and the driver Mr Lim who whisked us immediately to River Safari Singapore – Asia’s first and only river-themed wildlife park attached to the Zoo complex.

The park showcases 7 of the great rivers of the world: The Mississippi, Congo, River Nile, Ganges, Murray, Mekong & Yangtze with aquarium and animal displays. Designed to walk on foot for most of it, and then on a boat as well as heading into some other areas: A squirrel monkey forest and the flooded Amazion forest.

The gardens were beautiful. The girls ADORED this. Winnie was thrilled that she got to enjoy it with small kids for a change. And I was personally loving myself silly with a MEDIA card lanyard on.

The exhibitions are all dotted around a natural water reservoir filled with turtles and dotted with local plant life…so pretty! There was so much to keep little (and older) people interested along the way – so many varied fish and animals – and much to learn.

As well as seeing what is below these rivers it was great to see what was above the water too – plenty of monkeys, otters, beavers too. Beavers!

The highlight for all of us was catching two giant pandas on display…and one was well and truly awake too. Daisy was SO excited to see her all time favourite animal: the red panda. There were 3 of them trotting around.

You also get a sneak peak across to the zoo…through the polar bear display.

Harper’s VERY favourite bit was being tall enough to go on a boat ride through the Amazon river. A slow ride through flamingos and jaguars with the occasional faster slide downhill with a splash. She was half scared shitless, half thrilled….pure joy to watch!

You can also walk through the squirrel monkey forest which was great for close encounters as they jumped around the trees. Cute. Ish.

Who knew piranhas were so jazzy with glittery scales?! Don’t be fooled. This one is thinking…if it wasn’t for that glass bitch…

The girls really loved this place. We knocked it over in just over 2 hours at a pretty fast pace but without missing anything. I’ve only heard amazing things about the zoo and bird park next door too…so perhaps you could knock off both at the same time?

  1. I don’t think it existed when I was there 3 years ago is it new? We went to to Zoo though which is amazing. Best zoo I have been to by far. At the half way mark there is even a splash pool water play area, perfect as that’s when your getting a bit too hot! Love Singapore, if u have time check out the Botanical Gardens they are amazing too, tame giant fish come right to the edge if the lake for food.

    • Yes it is -it only officially opened earlier this year but opened in 2010 and then gradually sections have opened since then. Will get to the zoo next time for sure!

  2. Looks like a fabulous family outing. I am loving their use of colour dotted throughout. Annnnd, you saw beeeeeeavers!

  3. The flamingos looked decidedly more real than the ones around my pool 😉 x

  4. I want that Panda!

  5. It’s just amazing right? I went with a dickhead ex and although I wanted to throw him into the lion’s den I resisted and walked around for hours by myself, very therapeutic. My kids would ADORE it!

  6. We were at Din Tai Fung at the Marina Bay Shoppes on Saturday night! So close but so far…. We did the Night Safari this time – also pretty good. And a day trip to Legoland in Malaysia. If you go again – stay on Sentosa Island. Amazingly kid-friendly, and better as our kids find Orchard Rd and all the shops overwhelming. Plenty to do on Sentosa (water parks, aquarium, underwater world, Universal studios).

    • We’ll be sure to check out Sentosa next time for sure…I’d never been before so wanted to experience what the city had to offer!

  7. wow that sounds like an amazing exhibition – I have only heard great things about the zoo too, definitely one to add to the travel itinerary
