Made

We’ve got some lovely friends, let’s call them Mr & Mrs Munro as that is their names, who have gifted us with some pretty special home-made stuff over the past few weeks.

On the weekend Mr M  (he also made Rob’s coffee table birthday present which I ADORE) gave us a wooden vessel that he made from a sleeper. A sleeper if you will! It has been finished in the ‘Shou Sugi Ban’ technique (where the wood is burnt) and tung oil. I mean honestly, isn’t it something else?

Just before Christmas Mrs M gifted me with a living succulent wreath which she made from some old vines, some panty hose and succulents. It was enough to plain take my breath away. And now it gives me joy each and every time I walk into the front door and see it hanging there.

Are you a maker of stuff?
Made anything lately you’d like to share with us?
I feel like I’d quite like to MAKE something, you know? But NOT CRAFT. Maybe I might start painting again.

Mr M also has a website and a Facebook page too if anyone was keen for more info.

  1. I love making stuff! My sister in law is due to have their first bub in a few weeks and I’ve made a rag quilt and bunting for them. I also knit and made friends back in Scotland cowls for Christmas. This year I want to learn how to crochet, need a new challenge.

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Well done! You know I made a quilt once…I did. I was heavily depressed at the time, but I did. Go for the crocheting…so much inspiration around and so many blogs to teach thou….good luck!

  2. Um hello.. far too talented!!.. That wreath has just inspired me. I made a native wreath before Christmas which has of course now dried out and needs re planting as such… succulents it has to be!!.. How amazeballs is THAT!

What lovely pieces. Lucky you. There is nothing as special as handmade.

  4. It’s a gorgeous bowl Beth. I just made some new cushions.. No great skill involved but it’s the cheapest makeover I know!

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

They look fabulous! You know my thoughts on cushions…imagine if I knew how to drive a sewing machine…I wouldn’t stop! Good on you 🙂

  5. I am about to make a table cloth. I bought some fabric a while ago (like before two Christmas’s ago!!) and wasn’t sure what to do with it. apparently my plain white cloths aren’t cutting it so now I’m on a mission……
I would love to see something you paint! Perhaps when Harper is at pre-school you’ll have the peace and quiet to do it. 🙂

    • Me too! I have an enormous table and can never find tablecloths I like.

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Table cloths sound like something I could do even – let me know how you go! I might just get the paints out again…I can feel an itching.

I wish I could make stuff but I have to live vicariously through other clever types. I have ideas but no skill. My lovely Michael on the other hand is very clever. Just made this giant ruler for us the other day after getting sick of the kids writing their heights on the wall. I put a pic on FB and ending up getting 20 orders. Poor love had to spend the hols making more! That’s his punishment for being clever.

I think I met this very clever man when I did my photog course with Tim??? Love the pieces. You are blessed with lovely neighbours. What a gift x

  8. Lisa Mckenzie says

Yes I do make stuff on the odd occasion but never as good as these gorgeous pieces,I love the wreath and that wooden vessel is so beautiful I will have to check out their website,I love repourpsed items. If you can paint Beth you had better get back into it xx

  9. Lisa Mckenzie says

What beautiful things they make I love the wreath and the wooden vessel it is stunning!I do like it when people make use of old things and make new items ,they always have so much character don’t they Beth.
I have made quiet a few things but nothing as beautiful as these,if you can paint Beth you had Better get back into it,as it is a shame to waste your talents xx

  10. I am a maker of stuff. My current project is leadlight windows for our newly renovated Queenslander house. The front door and windows on the stairs currently have builder’s ply covering spaces where beautiful, sparkling leadlight windows should be, and I am agonising over the design phase, wanting to get it just right. Once the designs are settled, it will be into the hard work of cutting the glass, fitting the lead, soldering and puttying to finish. I’m no artist, I just took an amateurs class a few years back, and had a go. But the results have been surprising, and beautiful too. Finding the time is hard, but builder’s ply, and a dark stairwell are incredibly motivating.
I also crochet (self taught, watching youtube videos!), which I always thought was for nannas. But I have not long finished a lovely chevron/wave pattern blanket for my girl’s bed, which is lovely, and she was delighted with. My boy has put in a request for one too!
    Busy hands!

  11. Oh I love making stuff … finishing them is another matter entirely
    xx

  12. MotherDownUnder says

I find stuff I want to make…and then I send it along to my mom and she actually makes it!

  13. Wowsers! Just beautiful! All of it I admire makers, but I have to admit I’m not much of a maker (more of a destroyer!). I’d like to make something too. Actually does IKEA count? I’m quite good at assembling flat-pack furniture ;). x

I love that bowl! How gorgeous. Now you KNOW I am a ‘Maker’. I make lots of things – sewn things, crocheted things, mostly. I made some handmade Christmas gifts for the little people, a felt name book, a library bag, and a crocheted round rug for friends. My latest big project though has been a granny square blanket for my bestie who just had a baby girl, Claire’s blanket took a lifetime but was a labour of love! So glad it’s finished though. Oh and I’ve been making a baby too 😉 I’d love to see you pick up a paintbrush again.

that bowl, and the wreath, can’t decide which i love most 🙂

  17. I am a quilter…but at the moment I am in classroom making mode. Reading corner cushions, displays, oh and a wooden speech bubble that I used real tools from the garage to cut and then paint in chalkboard paint so the students can use it when we make IiMovies, photo booths etc

  18. I just made a lined shift dress with cap sleeves (nearly killed me).

  19. Kirsty @ This Grand Life says

That bowl is gorgeous! I love making things, tonight I finished a library bag (which my Kindy girl has her eye on!) https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/174932929/zingy-fresh-library-bag-ready-for-school? K x

Love it – thanks for sharing the link! They look like they would be great bags – sometimes I reckon the shitty string handles just don’t cut it. I’ll remember these for presents – thanks!

  20. Love, love, love. You must be a great friend to them to be the receiver of such special treats. I tend to knit for folks and can things. I’m a bit of an addict.

  21. How do I get friends like yours?!

  22. ahoy.jenni says

Me too, I wish I could make something. I would like to be an artisan, but I don’t know what to make! I’m thinking when I get time in the dim dark future to learn basket making, including how and where to collect the grass or reeds etc.
The bowl is beautiful and I don’t usually like wreath things but I would certainly hang that one, lucky you !

  23. Michelle Henry says

Careful, Beth. In my experience painting can become addictive!! Absolutely LOVE both the wreath and the bowl.
