Monday. Meh.

It’s Monday. How does the weekend go, just like that? I am feeling bluesy this morning. It’s cloudy and miserable again here after the most picture perfect summers day yesterday. I think that must have been summer, that one day, yesterday. The girls both slept badly all weekend. One I can handle, two send me over the edge. Saturday night we had 4 wake ups all before 11.30pm and then about another 6 before the day started again. It’s so fucking boring I can barely muster the energy to even care about it anymore. Last night was the same – both kids awake, screaming, crying, getting overtired by the minute and me at my wits end. Almost at the very end of it – screaming, crying, yelling, swearing – all I can say is we better get a good nights sleep soon otherwise this family will lose their minds. All of us. OK, mostly me. Poor Daise looked like shit this morning – exhausted and not well rested and I can only hope she makes it through the School day. We will be having a 4pm dinner tonight and in bed by 6pm tonight, it’s one of those days. I also found out last night that my brother and his family are moving to Melbourne in a few months time. That means that half my family are in another state. I’m excited for them and know just how great a big life change can be, but I can’t help but feel sad that we won’t see them as much anymore. I guess it’s a great excuse to visit Melbourne more often though right?

Anyway, enough about all that. It’s not all doom and gloom. We had a great weekend. Spent some time with old and new friends, ate some great food, drank probably too much wine. Hosted a lovely lunch, sat in the shade of the tree chatting and nattering, marvelled at the sunshine, watched the kids run wild and have a ball and also got some time in the garden. Yes, it wasn’t all bad at all.

This week I plan on getting some rest. I plan on doing everything I can to get Harper rested and in her bed. I plan on helping Daisy stay cool, calm and collected, rested and ready for all her days at School. We will have some visits from various Gma’s, some ballet and some swimming. It’s looking pretty vanilla this week ahead, and it’s just about all we need {and can cope with} around here.

  1. ARGH! I feel your pain {or lack of sleep} too!! Although, thank goodness I only have one, but when it combines with everything else – seriously the shit goes down here too.
Looks like a great weekend though, strawberries look delish. I hope things settle, and you have an amazing week ahead ๐Ÿ™‚
    Bloody Mondays.

  2. Gosh darn it you know how to lay a pretty table my dear. I cant even comprehend your sleeplessness what with being kidless but I know you’re da bomb and you will get through it and in the blink of an eye you will have teenagers that never want to get out of bed. And it will be awesome. Promise. xsx

  3. On this gloomy Monday I thought this may make you smile…..You pretty lady have prompted me to chase my dreams. To embrace a seachange, no less, and give this fast paced city living a break for a while. So thank you. If it weren’t for your stories of making a huge life change such a success, I wouldn’t be doing it.

ps vanilla ain’t so bad, sometimes it’s exactly what you need.

    • Traci that is SO good. Wow! How exciting for you. I’m so glad that I have been able to be a part of your change in some small way – it’s going to amazing!

And yes, vanilla is EXACTLY what we all need this week x

  4. Love love love your table settings! You just have the “eye” for it! Best wishes for a vanilla week ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I have been reading for while but never commented before. We are making a huge change later this year. We are the other end of child rearing (huge sigh of relief) with all kids left home and working or studying. So… we are going to hit the road and travel and work YAY! I’m so looking forward to new horizons and meeting new people as well as facing the challenges I know will present themselves along the way. They do say ‘a change is as good as a rest’ don’t they?
    Cheers
    Anne

  6. vanilla is my favourite flavour week – cos just like a child, i can get overstimulated and on a sugar high from too much of a chocolate week. vanilla is the norm round these parts lady, and that is just how i like it. chocolate is good as a treat, but vanilla is where it is at! p.s. those olives look so delicious. my mouth is watering, you know, just fyi.

  7. Be kind to yourself. You do tired in style.

P.S. Vanilla is my favourite flavour, it just goes with everything!

  8. I think we’ll be having one of those early nights today as well. Hope they sleep better tonight for you.

By the way – those strawberries look so good!

  9. Love the flowers – so pretty! And sleep. If I could get my kids into some kind of (decent)sleep routine it would feel like winning the lottery… I’m sure (hope) it will happen, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for us both!

  10. Wishing you a vanilla bean icecream sleep tonight!

  11. Vanilla is all good – simple, comforting and delicious.
Oh man – the nocturnal nasties are literally torture. Torture.
You, my girl, could have been a fully inducted soldier (sniper, even) time and time again by now.
I’m still in love with your home – but maybe only in the daylight hours for now.
    ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  12. I am exhausted and have a sty. In my eye. And it fucking kills. Love you darl xxxxx

  13. I’ve also been reading a while and never commented, but I wanted to tonight. I’m so sorry that you’ve had a tough time with your girls and their sleeping, but I just know that it will get better for you. As someone else commented, they’re only little for a short time (but, agreed, while you’re in the middle of it it can seem bloody unending)and I do think, as a mum to one who had some apnoea “issues”, once that surgery is over with, it should get a lot better for your little one. I really hope so anyway. And I really hope you can get some rest this week too. Take care, Kell

  14. We had a rough day yesterday with over tiredness and bad attitudes too. We got to 4pm and questioned whether it was too early to get dinner on… no effin way. LOVE the 4.30 dinner, 6ish bedtime. Sometimes, everyone needs that. Your pics are amazing as always, table setting is beautiful :o) xo

  15. I just got home from driving my 19mo around the countryside trying to settle her. I could never have done this in Sydney (In Albury now) as the traffic and lights would have kept her awake. Sometimes you do what you have to do and after 1.5 weeks of ear infection hell I’ll do anything for sleep!

    Love your blog x

  16. I love the phrase ‘vanilla’! its widely used at work (i.e. government – the most vanilla organisation on the planet). Hang tough, it’ll be worth it in the end.
    T x

  17. I love your table! You set a lovely dining area.

  18. Maybe you can make it a “French” vanilla week. Does that translate? Wishing you all the best for getting some rest, I can’t imagine how hard it would be to have two troubled sleepers…

PS just have to say my daughter watches peppa pig too, and something as silly as seeing it on your tv half way across the world makes me feel so not disconnected.
