Point & Shoot: All hail the Yabbie

When I saw that the Pub was hosting the Annual Yabbie day today, I knew that was one for the calendar. Excuse to go to the pub? Tick. Entertainment for the kids? Tick. Chance to meet some more locals and be part of the village? Tick.

And it did not disappoint. I even had some English visitors who has stopped in on their way back to Sydney who were very impressed. And why wouldn’t you be?

Each and every bucket had a catch taken from a local dam, creek or river. And a proud little someone who was happy to tell you just how they caught them. Unfortunately for my little ladies, this year we did not catch any but have the run down on just where to go next year. We will take down those Donovan champions yet…!

This one should have won “Best in Show” in my humble opinion. I mean look at all those spiky spikes!

I just love how this one fished, dumped and ran to the pub.

They had a race and everyone got a chance to pick them up and have a look.

There was a sausage sizzle. And beer. The beer was mine, not Harper’s.

They were weighed in. Prizes won in different divisions. Lollybags for kids. And afterwards they were all cooked up so we got to get stuck into them as well.

Now that’s what I call a good Sunday afternoon.

  1. How wonderful! And glad you’ve got the rundown on the dams for next year – the gals will have a blast. What a lovely community you have there!

  2. Now this is a top day! I love anything that allows you to have some adult time i.e. a pub, but include fun, frivolity and the children.
Love the yabbie races! This looks like a lot of laughs. Not like the Story Bridge in Brissie cockroach races in Brisbane. (Not been & not planning on it).
