800

This blog post should be so much more than it will be. It should be funnier. It should be written in a far more clear, succinct way. It should have better photos. It should have been put up yesterday.

Any just why should it be all those things I hear you ask? Well, because it’s my 800th(!) post! I KNOW! 800! Quite the mile stone for this veteran blogger.

But it’s not going to be any of those things because I’m sick (again) I am exhausted, I haven’t taken any photos and don’t have anything much to say at all. So instead it will look like this:

Tuesday we had some overnight grandparental visitors come which was lovely. It was a short visit, but filled with lots of laughter and good food and too much wine. I whipped up my own Bearnaise sauce to go with a standing beef rib roast and pomme frittes! Um, delicious and a blog post with details will follow. I got to bed too late, had to wake up in the night (again) because Daisy had (another) accident in the night which meant stripping the bed and starting all over again (again). And was up early the next morning.

Yesterday we woke to a dreary morning here full of rain and fog and mist. Daisy and I had planned to head up to Sydney to go and see Wind in the Willows at the Botanical Gardens. We left early to get there by 10.30am. I drove through some serious fog and kept hoping things were looking better at the other end. We parked at the Opera House, walked over, and saw approx 7 minutes of the show before they cancelled it on us. I was, ahem, not happy. Daisy was devastated and that sore throat that I had thrown nurofen and panadol at was getting worse by the second. We stood in line at some festival thing only to realise after 20 minutes that we were in a pre-paid collection line and no tickets could be purchased. I bribed Daisy with promises of a ride on one of those tourist trains that goes around the quay (except they wouldn’t take us because of the rain) so a quick bite to eat at Opera Bar and a lemonade and we were back on the road (again). And should I mention that it was sunny? It was. The trip home was a nightmare. Daisy slept and all I wanted to do was the same. I almost had an accident with a big four wheel drive wanker who was stopping for no one. You could almost hear the black Lexus as it powered down the highway “out of my way! Very important person coming through who will stop for NO ONE! OUT OF MY WAY LOSERS!!!”. Anyway, we arrived home, I crashed out and went to bed at 7pm last night and am still nursing this cold/sore throat that won’t go away.

Those clouds should have given it away shouldn’t it? This was taken when we arrived.

So, people, this will be my 800th post. Complaining, whinging, sick and bad photo and all. Which is quite symbolic really. Just when you think something should go one way, it goes the other. Just like parenting really.

  1. Not a bad photo at all! A lovely photo of your gorgeous little person with a beautiful smile on her face cause she got to spend the day with her mum all on her lonesome. Hope you start feeling better soon and congrats on getting to 800. I’ve only just passed 100 but I am soooo nipping at your heels!!!

  2. 800 – the mind boggles! I’m not even up to 200 and I feel like I’ve been pretty busy.

Sending [what I wish was] a really huge bouquet of the most divine flowers for your terrific accomplishment…. and a big dose of Olive Leaf to get rid of the lurgy.

I hope the happy, healthy and vibrant you is back within your skin sooner rather than later,

    x Felicity

  3. Oh Beth you poor thing. Your an amazing mum for trying xx

  4. 800! That is extraordinary! I hope you are feeling better for your 801 🙂

  5. An A+ for being a good Mummy! That roast dinner sounded delicious, look forward to the snaps. Rest up. Get well. That’s the problem though with parenthood; how to take a ‘sick’ day?! Give yourself permission to let the kids watch too much tv. Congrats on 800 posts. Wow-wee!!! I’m a better follower than poster.

  6. Oh, but keeping it real though. I love that.

Congrats anyway and I hope you feel better soon. Xxx

  7. Hey man, a big congrats.

I think THIS is why I love your blog (I recently discovered it, but am a comment virgin). You’re keeping it real for all the mumma peeps out there. Thanks. You make me feel less shit about my mama conquests.

    xx

  8. It’s a little bit like when you wake up on your anniversary / birthday/ other special occasion and you realise that you just can’t be bothered. And why is today any different a kind of day anyway? You know…

Well done on EIGHT HUNDRED POSTS! But really, it’s a post like any other. I think that’s why we keep the milestones using only anniversaries with 5 or a 10 in them… or a 1 if it happens to be your 21st.

    I am so babbling…

  9. Oh my. Congrats on the big eight-oh-oh, Beth. That’s just astounding. And I really felt for you. That’s the kind of thing that happens to me. Thanks for keeping it so real here, my friend! J x
